about

From Mied:

I really wanted to have the cover appear a bit like an old school map, a forgotten relic of the Esperanto Initiative which shows the shrouded, mystical island of Sklavo Cervalo - an island erased from academia and common memory. Pesto actually means 'Plague' in Esperanto and it was the name of the album long before Covid showed its face. It's a coincidence and one myself and Dan have noted and raised our eyebrows at but I think we agree it should remain and combined with the Island it adds a small layer of mystery. Basically there is a quasi religious basis to the island, they prefer it remains a secret to avert a repeat of a historical tragedy (involving a plague) and the priests retain their fairly benign power by use of the 'Spirits Of Death' - which, to the inhabitants, are giant headless birds that fly over the Island on certain weeks of the year.
